Behind The Lens

Location

We were visiting friends at their home in Arkansas. They have a small farm on a few acres.

Time

It was nearing sunset. It was a clear and beautiful that late autumn afternoon.Perfect.

Lighting

It was just before golden hour hit so it still had a lot of bright light but a slight warmness to it.

Equipment

At the time I only had my Nikon D90 on me with a polarized filter on it . I believe was using a 24-70mm lens.

Inspiration

I was walking around visiting with the animals on the farm. The horses were being absolutely lovey. I took about 12 shots of them and this particular image stood out to me . Their names are Pep and Casey.

Editing

Once I got into Lightroom , I explored the B&W presets and upped the contrast. The vignette was a bit tricky because of how it would change the mood of the image. Deciding which mood spoke to me more was tie between 3 possible outcomes.

In my camera bag

Depends if I have my Nikon bag or Canon bag. Both contain an 85mm, 24-70mm and usually a super wide angle. I've recently have fallen in love with LEE filters. Especially the BIG STOPPER and gradient filter. They were extremely useful at our last trip to the Montana/Yellowstone/Grand Tetons where the sky is incredibly bright.

Feedback

Know that great images are everywhere. Just take time to see it, whether up high or down low, any scene can be a great photo.
