Eastern Indians used to use Blood Root for medicinal purposes. people still use it today for toothaches, achy joints, and certain skin conditions. the root of the plant leaks this sticky, thick red latex, and that's where the medicine comes from. i found this patch in the Smokies along the river. it's my favorite spring flower and that's saying a lot from someone who lives in the Smokies where people travel from all over the world to see the wildflowers.
