Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my back garden, in a small town in Ireland. Naturally everything was green, apart from the white flowers but sometimes I just feel like creating a different world when editing.

Time

I was going out for a walk with my girlfriend around noon and as I usually do I stopped every 5 seconds to take some pictures ( as many photographers probably do anyway). And this time the picture turned out to be worth stopping for and turned out interesting.

Lighting

God was responsible for any lighting here. It was outside so I didn't have control of any lighting, sometimes it's good to let nature do some of the work for you.

Equipment

I used only my phone on the go since I forgot to bring my camera with me. Many pictures I take are with my phone, and sometimes they turn out better than you'd think. I first started learning the basics on phones, then I upgraded to a camera. This picture I took with the Samsung GALAXY S6 (which I can recommend for on the go pictures)

Inspiration

Maybe not so much inspired to take the picture but maybe to make it into what it is now. I always loved the idea of creating worlds, stories and entire systems, that's why I also love creating games, but it also plays into my photography. I always want to create something different. And this picture shows something almost put of this world.

Editing

Yeah, as most of my pictures I did some playing around in Photoshop. With those one I was mainly playing around with some actions that I found and it slowly started to turn into the final product.

In my camera bag

When I don't forget my camera equipment, I usually bring a 50mm lense in case I want to shoot some portraits since I can get a nice blurred background on high aperature. A simple 17-50 mm lense for pretty much everything else. I like to carry around a reversal ring in case I'm in the mood for some macro shots, spares me from carrying (and spending more money) a third lense. Them there's the must haves, stuff like spare batteries, charges and so cards.

Feedback

I guess it's all about finding the right bush at a right time, I walked past this bush on many occasions, rain, wind, but on that day it just felt like it's going to be a good looking picture. I guess having good vibrant colors on the leaves is a nice addition, in this picture the leaves were originally very green saturated so it made for a nice contrast for the white flowers as it was. After that I'd say it all comes down to editing and getting your creative juices to flow.
