Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the Zoro Garden in Balboa Park. Balboa is one of my favorite places to take photos because there are so many different corners and gardens to capture different feelings.

Time

I had been out and about with my sisters and my niece taking photos that whole day but this particular photo was taken in the mid afternoon.

Lighting

I didn't do anything special for lighting besides have pretty nice luck with the shadows in the garden. I noticed the tree stump had only caught part of the sun that was peaking through the larger trees next to it so I saw the opportunity for pretty natural lighting and took it.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D3000 to capture this photo.

Inspiration

I was preparing my sister and her daughter for another photo actually and I had turned around to tell my niece to move and she had herself seated on the stump when I saw how small she looked on this big stump. The whole photo came together by accident actually. I had her tuck her knees up and it looked to sweet and innocent I had to snap the photo. It turned out much nicer than I had expected.

Editing

I'm a hobbyist with little experience post-processing photos so I try to capture photos that require as little post-processing as possible. With this particular photo the most I did was up the contrast a bit to make it a little more dramatic.

In my camera bag

I mostly just keep my portable battery charger in my bag and extra SD cards.

Feedback

As I'm still inexperienced and rely mostly on luck to capture photos, my advice is just to keep your eyes open.
