Excellent low-key lighting unveils just enough to express the curves of femininity in mysterious allure.

Location
This was taken in my studio in Clinton MA.Time
It was late in the day, the studio is in an old building with huge windows that have no curtains, so in order to do something like this, it's easiest to wait till it's dark outside.Lighting
It's a single light source, a Paul Buff Einstein on a boom over her head, just out of shot. It had a narrow strip box with grid, and it was aimed just past the top of her head. She was on a table covered in black cloth and about 5 feet behind her was a set of black out curtains on a stand.Equipment
Camera was a Nikon D7100 with a Tamron 24-70 f2.8 lens on a Vanguard tripod. Fairly simple set upInspiration
I had been wanting to try "bodyscapes" for a while and Kristin was nice enough to model for me while I tried a bunch of different things.Editing
Post was basically just trying to do some dodging and burning and to make sure the black was 'black' and that none of the backdrop, table etc would show. A little skin smoothing but not very much, I thought having her skin texture was important. In my camera bag
Nikon D7100, Tamron 24-70 f2.8 IS, Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VRII, Nikon 50mm 1.8, Nikon 24-120, Tamron 16-300, Nikon SB800, 2 Yongnuo YN-560IV and Yongnuo TX transmitter. Paul Buff lights and Cyber Commander transmitter.Feedback
I cannot overemphasize the importance of a great model. Kristin was extremely helpful, I showed her some samples of what I was trying to do and and was patient and helpful while I did lots of trial and error in moving the softbox and lighting around. And all that trial and error was important too. When shooting like this, the smallest change in light direction or intensity can make a big difference.
