Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in the bedroom of Kim, the mom

Time

This photo was taken several years ago, so I don't remember the specifics. I believe it was done on a Sunday afternoon

Lighting

Lighting was very simple, a single light (Probably either an Einstein or an Alien Bees B800) through a 24x36 softbox

Equipment

I'm not positive which camera was used, pretty sure it was a Nikon D300, though it could also have been a D7100. Lens was probably a Tokina 28-70 f2.8.

Inspiration

Kim had asked me to come by and take baby photos for her, they lay together in her bed for a whole while I just snapped photos from different angles.

Editing

I don't recall what was done. Probably just the usual adjustments, nothing too fancy.

In my camera bag

Right now I use a D850, Nikon 70-200 f2.8, Tamron 24-70 f2.8, a Nikon 50 1.8, and Tamron 16-300 for lenses. I use a Flashpoint Xplor 600 most of the time along with a couple of Flashpoint zoom manual speedlights and some Yongnuo speedlights if needed. I have various softboxes and umbrellas etc.

Feedback

Kim was someone I had known for a while, she had modeled for me in the past. She was very comfortable with me and I her, so the day was easygoing and pleasant. I don't do many baby photos, and this was the first time so it was a nice way to get my feet wet and we did get some very nice shots. So, I guess my advice would be to try to find people you're comfortable with when doing something new so that attaining a comfort level isn't one more thing you need to think about.
