Behind The Lens

Location

Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch in Gilbert,AZ

Time

0630,very early to capture that morning light I left my house at 0430.

Lighting

Get there when the light is good! In AZ in the Summer the morning light is gone before alot of people wake up!

Equipment

Canon 40d,500mm tripod.

Inspiration

I love American Avocets,I had heard from some of my photographer friends that their babies were simply adorable.Yet,I had never had the opportunity to see one.I was very happy when I heard that there was a new clutch of them in Gilbert.

Editing

Very minimal post-processing to preserve what I believe was the innocence in this shot,a simple baby bird and the reflection.I cropped, slight sharpness and contrast adjustment.

In my camera bag

Canon 40d and 100-400 lens this was a very fortunate occasion that my boyfriend had loaned me his 500mm.

Feedback

Be out there early, keep your distance and respect the parents with their young. They will sense danger and call out if you are too close and the babies will leave.Let the baby birds show you the shot, they will waddle around, feed, and swim within hours of birth,Be patient.
