Morning light is an Arizona nature photographers best friend.Even more so ,in the Summer this photo was taken at 0640 one glorious June morning.
Lighting
I did not want to blow the highlights on this adorable chick.Morning light helped me so much, and I also brought down my ISO from my usual 400 to 320.I opted for f/8.0 as well.
Equipment
Tripod and ball head
Canon 40D
500mm lens
no flash
Inspiration
The fist time I saw baby Black-Necked Stilts,I thought I had died and gone to bird photographer heaven. They are fluffy, cute and have such personalities hours after birth.I wanted people to see how I saw them eager to stretch their wings and explore their world.
Editing
I opted to crop this image vertical along with sharpen, and a slight adjustment to contrast and brightness.I wanted to focus on the chick not on the processing.
In my camera bag
Canon 7d 100-400 lens.
Feedback
Be patient! I spend hours with the Stilts that day.I was after some flap shots and was determined to stay as long as I needed to get them.Give the birds space,if Mother birds feel that their young are not safe they will not let them venture too far from them.Use the best equipment you can.
