At the beginning of the rutting period the big stags are in peak condition. This is the last image of a series where I followed one of the lords for a while. He came out of the forrest with his harem to cover himself in mud, strut around a bit and showing himself to his ladies. I was so glad to capture this moment..especially as 3 weeks later this particular stag passed away after a fight with a peer. He caught an antler in the eye and didn't make it...
