Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Peace Valley Park in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It is one of my favorite parks to visit and I go very often. There’s almost always a great opportunity to get some shots.

Time

This photo is a few years old. I don’t remember the exact time, but I would say judging by the sunset it looks like a summer time sunset. In Pennsylvania the sun usually goes down by 8-8:30 depending on the month in the summer. I’d say this was around 8 pm.

Lighting

I wanted to be able to capture the reflection on the water very well so I decided to underexpose the shot by a good amount. I think it came out pretty nice!

Equipment

The equipment I used was a Canon 77D with the Tamron 18-400mm lens. No tripod or any other filters or anything. Just me and my camera.

Inspiration

I think sunsets are my favorite types of photos to take. Just the sheer beauty of sunsets inspire me to capture their essence forever from my camera and then onto my PC.

Editing

I adjusted some of the highlights and shadows and such to bring out more of the reflection in the water. I adjusted the white balance a bit to create an overall warmer image.

In my camera bag

The equipment I have in my bag currently is my Canon 90D, Sigma 100-400mm, a Canon 10-22mm, a Tokina 14-20mm, and a Canon 50mm lens. I have a few variable ND filters as well. Sometimes I like to bring my drone with me.

Feedback

Just be patient. Some days you’ll have a great sunset and some days you’ll have just a big cloudy sky where it won’t look very good. Most of the time some clouds are okay, but you don’t really want the clouds to be the main subject. Find different places with an open view of the sun as well. Always take multiple photos with different exposures as well!
