Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during a road trip to Colorado in Cadillac ranch Amarillo, Texas

Time

It was around 9-10 am before starting the long hours in the road

Lighting

The sun was behind us and being covered by big natural soft box of clouds which allowed me to capture a more dramatic look in the whole composition

Equipment

I shot this with natural light and my Nikon D7000 18-105 mm nikkor lens

Inspiration

At the time I shot this; I was deciding to transition into pet photography only; and doing a family road trip with my fur kids (dogs who are like or kids) inspired me to do a travel series for them and this image is where I decided it was the right step

Editing

I like my images to be as natural as possible so most of the time I only use Lightroom; this was the case here, I only balanced the exposure of the sky and the dogs body, so you could appreciate their expression better

In my camera bag

My Nikon with my favorite 50mm 1.4 prime and the 18-105mm lens kit that allows for a very wide variety of shoots, these along with a 15" reflector are all I need for any situation

Feedback

The fact that I trained and live with these guys made it super easy to tell them where to stay and for how long; but untrained dogs can totally accomplish this type of photographs as long as they have someone they trust close by... And enough time to try as many times as necessary
