Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from my kayak on Pawtuckaway Lake in Northwood, NH. Father Loon bringing a fish to feed the twins who are 3 and 4 days old.

Time

Shot at 7:00 am. The water is a little calmer and very few people on the lake.

Lighting

Early morning light highlights the adults red eyes. Shot at f/14, 1/320 sec, ISO-500.

Equipment

Taken handheld from my kayak, using a Canon 7D2, 100-400mm2 lens and a 1.4ext.3.

Inspiration

I spend most of my free time in the summer kayaking with various Loon families in southern, NH.

Editing

I shoot jpg and adjust the size, dpi, and contrast of my photos.

In my camera bag

I always have my Canon 7D2, 100-400mm2 lens and a 1.4ext.3. with me in the kayak. I also carry a gopro for underwater video and an above water video camera.

Feedback

Don't chase after Loons. Paddle into their part of the lake and just sit there. They will eventually come closer to see what you are doing. Zoom lenses work best. Carry your camera and lens in a water proof bag until ready to shoot.
