Behind The Lens

Location

I went for a little stroll with my girlfriend's Canon 750D and tried to capture nice Close up photography with the macro lens.

Time

It was about one in the afternoon, and I just remember dreading work later that day, so I had to take my mind off it!

Lighting

I love shooting at roughly noon when the sun is its highest, it acts as a great source of light without having to worry about glare. If it's clear also, the blue skies are a huge bonus.

Equipment

I used a Canon 750D with a 70-400mm lens and shot handheld.

Inspiration

When going on walks, I literally stop and shoot anything that steals my line of vision. Droplets are beautiful, and I love capturing them with a really close up shot. I've taken a fair few close ups, but I wanted a photo that had layers. You have the flowers and buds in the foreground, as well as the background, with the droplets being the point where the depth of field is reaching.

Editing

I do exactly the same with all my photos: Load it into PhotoShop, and first add contrast and decrease the brightness ever so slightly. Then I increase the vibrance and saturation a tiny bit, to bring out the colours. Lastly, I select the curves tool and check the Histogram levels are near enough a smooth line, and play around with what balance works nice, just shooting from the hip.

In my camera bag

I own a Nikon D3200, tripod, and two lenses: My 70-200mm lens and my 18-50mm lens. It has served me very well for just over a year so far, and I don't go far away without it!

Feedback

Take as many pictures as you can of anything, because most of the time, I think nothing of a shot, then look at it later and it's something quite beautiful. Experimentation is good, but when I go outside and take pictures, I try and keep a theme going each time, it gives you something to focus on and inspire you to try to find something new.
