Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the Big Cat Sanctuary at Smarden in Kent

Time

Just before lunchtime - 12 o'clock(ish) according to the rumblings from my stomach. Not that I measure time by the interval between meals...

Lighting

At that point it was bare naked sunlight from high in a clear blue sky

Equipment

Sony A99v plus my Sigma 150-500mm, handheld

Inspiration

I've always loved tigers, the chance to spend a day shooting them and the other big cats was too much to pass up

Editing

This one went through my normal post process, a little tweaking with saturation, sharpness and contrast and then a gloss of paint effect to bring out the texture of the fur. My post processing is evolving all the time and I do like to add a touch of digital art into the photos I take, that's just me, it's not for everyone

In my camera bag

This was my standard wildlife shooting setup - Sony A99v, Sigma 150-500mm, 50mm f2.8 macro and my 85mm Planar T*. I carry a cleaning kit, including an air rocket, spare batteries and my lucky hat. I keep my old Mk1 RX100 in my back pocket as a backup. It's a cracking little go anywhere camera with a huge battery life

Feedback

Find your passion and go shoot. The more you do it, the more rewarding it becomes. Keep an open mind, read and research whenever you get a chance and above all else, love what you do
