Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while taking a morning walk around my property.

Time

It was very early in the morning. The sun was still rising, the dew was still settled on top of blades of grass, and the spiders had not yet taken their webs down from the night before.

Lighting

The lighting that morning was incredibly soft. I used only the natural light from the sun, slightly muted by the mist that was lingering all around.

Equipment

Believe it or not, I captured this with an iPhone 6s.

Inspiration

The spider web's beauty. How perfect it had remained throughout the night. I couldn't help but capture it in a photo.

Editing

I'm quite new at this really, but I used an application to brighten the colors and increase the contrast between the web and grass.

In my camera bag

Well, if by "bag" you really mean "pocket", I normally carry my iPhone 6s. Though I am hoping to win an actual camera through the many contests being held by ViewBug and its Sponsers.

Feedback

When capturing something of this nature I feel it's important to take the background into consideration. If the background is too busy, it will distract the viewer from the focal point and make it seem less significant. Be aware of your angles. It may look as though you can't capture what you want without including whatever distracting nonsense is going on behind it, but if you lie down or angle your camera just right you can make it work. Be patient and try different things, then go back and figure out what worked.
