Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken outside York Minster, they were holding the graduation for the students at York university, UK

Time

Late afternoon on a very sunny, crisp November day hence the long shadows

Lighting

We were blessed with 3 beautiful days for our trip to York. Each day was bright sunshine although bitterly cold but the Minster bathed in winter low sunshine created some beautiful shadows.

Equipment

A little Kodak digital compact given as a gift. Didn’t think it was any good but when I got home it had produced some of my best photo’s.

Inspiration

It was more about the lamppost for me I’m not sure I even noticed the students till afterwards but I feel they make the picture. I don’t think I’m very good at people pictures I’m a bit shy to do it so I tend to stick to things that don’t move

Editing

Originally in colour but when I looked at it in black and white it just blew me away. Edited with the basic photo editor on Microsoft vista.

In my camera bag

Now a days I have upgraded to a Nikon D3200 with the standard lens but have recently bought a 55-300 mm. For me it is purely a hobby so I don’t want to go crazy spending

Feedback

I think photos are something you feel, I’m lucky through my job working in mental health I have gained great observational skills and this helps me see things others may ignore. Saying that I think this was a fluke and more by luck than skill.
