Behind The Lens

Location

Northpine Dam just outside Brisbane Queensland Australia. It's funny how I rediscovered this magical location after years or as some people remind me. "To see an old place with new eyes." This location is a regular favourite for photographers mainly due to the vastness of the body of water, and the variety of cloud formations. A fellow photographer Allan mentioned that at the location there is a cluster of sticks that jut out of the lake and that has its own fan club of photographers. Snapped so many times by so many maybe it needs a promotional agent?

Time

I'd been at the lake since about 4 pm capturing the ducks as they glide across the water, but the magic time that I discovered of this lake is as the 'old timers' refer to as 'the gloaming' that time where you can see the face of God. It was closer to about 6 pm, the light was beautiful and the golden colours revealed. From memory, this was the last shot just as I was heading home. Just one more :-)

Lighting

I found that the setting sun and the bounce of the water were overwhelming my settings, so I had to keep shuffling and changing position to get the silhouette without the sun blasting out the camera.

Equipment

Canon 7D on this occasion I did use a tripod on this occasion, however at this location, there is a suitably located picnic bench that I have utilised on the occasions, I've "DAM! I've left the tripod at home!"

Inspiration

I specialise in photography of children but at the beginning of the year, I suffered a serious health scare. I've never been into landscape photography, people have always fascinated my interest. but I found myself to aid my recovery, getting out of the house and photographing places.

Editing

Shot in raw, but I think I may have just tweaked( technical term) in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

Canon 7D 50 mm lens I mainly photograph children and this lens is wonderful for capturing light in the eyes. 70 - 200 (I want to marry that lens)

Feedback

Like the Real estate Sellers hark, Location. Location. Location. I've visited this place many times and each time it revealed something to me. I think spending time there and experimenting with a variety of lens.
