Location
I manage a Child Care service and this darling often comes to visit. I think he likes the hum and the action of the children, between you and me he particularly likes sitting in my office looking at the fish in the fishtank.Time
Late afternoon, he seems to know when the children are most active and visit then to catch a pat or two from the children.Lighting
I hate using a flash usually, but on this occasion, I think on this occasion there was a big sign behind me that reflected light onto the subject as he was walking towards me.Equipment
Canon 5d Mk 2 Handheld. I have shot with a whole range of Canons over my lifetime. Can still remember the SLR Canon Eos 1000 film camera not to mention the Canon AE+Program. I love the 5D range. I also have a 7D but it seems that each model has a feel for certain things.Inspiration
There is a saying "Opportunity knocks. Why were you listening to your iPod?" Been available and been in the moment looking for opportunities to present themselves. I spent enough time saying I wish, I had taken that photo or I wish I had my camera with me to capture that shot. Well now I don't lament the missed shot, I take my camera with me where ever and I'm not one of those people who whinge about missing a shot. Always on the hunt and subjects and situations reveal themselves, you just have to be paying attention.Editing
I may have tweaked the colour when converting from raw to jpg but other than that I'd rather leave the cat looking like the cat it was rather than the cat I want it to be.In my camera bag
Currently, I have 7D Mk 2 plus a 50 mm lens which is wonderful for capturing portraits of children, young people, seems to capture and bring out the eyes. Standing above the subject, the whites seem to jump out and grab you. 18 - 55mm I like this lens for when I'm playing around with the focus of a shot, it has a nifty focus wheel that after autofocus basically sets up the shot, you can decide on the definite focus of the subject. In this shot, I wanted the eyes and the stalking nature of the cat as it wandered towards me.Feedback
Don't have anyone behind you. You know those 'so called helpful people' behind you calling or coaxing the cat. I tried it previously and all you get a cat in front of headlights. Stunned. Similarly to when I photograph children, I ask the 'well-meaning parents' or 'family friends' who are jumping up and down, pulling faces, making noises behind me to go have coffee and stop ruining my moment.
