Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken from a friends backyard in Durban, South Africa. There's just something warming about a sunrise on a crisp winters morning.

Time

I took this photo at the crack of dawn, around 5:30am. The air was still cold but the it was the perfect day. I couldn't miss a good shot of what I had seen.

Lighting

Natural lighting seems to work best for me when taking photos of sunrises and various other landscapes

Equipment

I used my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 smartphone to take this shot with no flash.

Inspiration

I'm an ocean lover so seeing a beautiful sunrise over the horizon on the coast is something special to look at for me

Editing

In this image I chose to bring out the warmth of the landscape by increasing the lighting and sharpening the colours in certain areas.

In my camera bag

I always like to have a Go-Pro Hero 4 handy, it's good for taking HD photos and videos and it's durable. Action shots are a pleasure and it weighs next to nothing. I use my smartphone most of the time simply because it's quick to catch a good moment with. Other than that I'll use a Nixon D500 camera, a tripod, low light capable lens, zoom lens and uv filter

Feedback

It's great to take images like this with natural light with no flash. The brightness can easily be adjusted but it's always good to remember that using filters can ruin a good natural shot
