Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at home with one light. My grandson River is always happy to pose for me. This was an in between pose shot. The candid ones are always the best ones.

Time

It was indoors so I don’t remember the time of day.

Lighting

I used one light pretty close to his face and added an overlay in Photoshop to create more drama,

Equipment

D800, 24–120 Nikon Camera and Lens. I always use a tripod and shutter release so he never really knows when I’m going to shoot.

Inspiration

My grandson is such a handsome. How could I not want to shoot his photo. I just took a class on Rembrandt lighting. I didn’t get it quite right but loved the image anyways.

Editing

Other than the usual sliders, I believe I added some extra grain and did some dodging and burning... just to make it look more analog.

In my camera bag

My bag is pretty small but I always have extra batteries, an extra SD card, external flash, lens cloth and of course my camera plus maybe an additional lens.

Feedback

Talk to your su just and take the shots inbetween poses.
