Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at a local car show at Baldhill in Long Island, New York.

Time

The photo was taken at sunset around 7pm.

Lighting

With the sun just beginning to set after several rain clouds passed over the car was well lit from the sun rays shining through. The sun set was intense and provided a nice warm glow to the sky.

Equipment

This was shot with a hand held Nikon d7100 paired with a 35mm 1.8 Nikon lens. No external light or filter was used.

Inspiration

I loved Chris's build from the moment I first saw it. Once I saw the clouds allowed some light I took advantage of the opportunity.

Editing

Light processing was used to show the true light coming through the clouds. The shadows were reduced to show some greater details of the vehicle. Also the overall temperature was slightly warmed up.

In my camera bag

I always pack my Sony a7 II along with the kit 28-70mm lens. For this shot I reached for my backup d7100 because of the low battery life left in the a7. I carry both the kit lens and the 35mm 1.8 for the d7100. I also carry various little knock knacks and memory cards in my bag.

Feedback

Attend every car show or any local event that you can! Most importantly stay till the end, if you leave early your missing out on potentially beautiful lighting or shot of objects that might otherwise be blocked by a crowd.
