Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my Garden in Hertfordshire England. I like to keep a photographic record of what flowers grow each year. I love taking macro shots and theses flowers were such a beautiful pinky/purple colour - I couldn't resist. I am very particular about composition and strive to frame my photos perfectly.

Time

This photo was taken in the afternoon in the height of summer. I patroll up and down the garden with my camera at the ready, recording my photographic garden diary while soaking in all those happy sunshine vitamins.

Lighting

I wanted this photo to be as crisp as possible. The combination of the summer sun and shadows created by my garden fence made for this beautiful photo that I am so proud of..it has such depth, almost a 3-dimensional quality.

Equipment

I used my faithful Nikon coolpix L330 bridge camera, the macro feature and my very steady hand.

Inspiration

I was inspired by the colours and the desire to produce a photo journal of my garden...my magical fairy garden.

Editing

There was no post processing. It didn't need any. :)

In my camera bag

I don't have any other equipment other than my Nikon. For me it's all about creating a perfectly framed piece of art. I like the challenge of taking perfect photos using just my talent and no gizmos.

Feedback

My advice is to be persistant...take lots and lots throughout the year. Different times of day - different seasons. Carefully review your photos on a big, crisp screen before dismissing any. Most importantly have a purpose for your pictures in mind. A creative end. Otherwise it's just another meaningless photo of a random flower.
