This photo was taken in my studio which is in my home. I absolutely adore my home studio! It has beautiful areas for many different types of photos and the light is gorgeous.Time
This was taken about midday. The windows of this room face the setting sun so the light is best in the afternoon all the way up until the sun begins to go down. I love shooting boudoir when the light is strong through the window because I can always soften it using gauzy drapes or create stunning backlit images.Lighting
I wanted to really highlight her eyes so I made sure that no matter what, her eyes were lit up. Anything else I was okay with shadows. I used a studio light near her head to really make sure her eyes caught the light and the rest of the image is using natural light from the window on the left.Equipment
At the time of this photo I was using a Canon 70d with a wide angle lens. I had a studio light off to the right and natural light coming in through a window on the left.Inspiration
I love the casual look of this pose in boudoir. It is easy for most people to pull off because it doesn't require too much bending or stretching. It is also flattering on so many different body types! I love that her eyes are peeking through the bend in her arm. I always try to create angles in boudoir. Not only to help flatter each individual body but to also make it interesting and draw your eye.Editing
Usually with boudoir I smooth out and even up the skin first. Then I sharpen and touch up the eyes if applicable which in this case was the entire reason for me taking this image. I turned it black and white because I love that there is nothing distracting from her eyes and it makes it a classic timeless photo. In my camera bag
I always have two camera bodies in my bag, usually a Canon 70d and a Canon 5d Mark III. I carry a wide variety or lenses but for boudoir I shoot with either a stock wide angle or a 50mm.Feedback
With boudoir it's all about creating emotion within an image as well as making sure you really pay attention to body type and what type of poses you're doing. Everyone is photogenic. You just have to find the right angles and the right posing to really make the image pop. With boudoir it's also important to give your client confidence because if they are uncomfortable it will show in the image.
