Location
I shot this photo in our back alley. It was a hot summer day and a rainstorm had just passed through leaving numerous puddles all around. My children were sad that they couldn't play outside on their toys so I said lets go play in the rain. They grabbed their boots and coats and we were off to go puddle hunting and splashing.Time
It was the afternoon, the sun was high, but we had a great cloud cover to provide the best lighting sitautionLighting
The overcast from the storm helped provide ideal lighting. I didn't want to increase my ISO for any reason.Equipment
I used my Canon 70D with my 50mm prime lens and shot in shutter priority. I did not need a flash or tripod for this situation.Inspiration
I have always wanted to capture the precise moment when something hits the water and creates a natural explosion and brings out the detail of the water droplets. My children are the reason I became a photographer and I want to make sure that I snap every moment of their childhood and freeze it in time.Editing
I used Lightroom and photoshop CC. I used mainly dodge and burn tools to pull out the detail and enhance the experience. In my camera bag
I always have my 50mm prime lens and various kit lenses. My 50mm is my go to for almost everything.Feedback
Practice. Go out, have fun, tell your kids or subject to go crazy and ignore the camera. The best moments are caught when they think you are not paying attention to them. Take lots of photos, even if you take 200 photos and only keep one image, that one image will make the shoot epic, its worth it!
