Behind The Lens

Location

Photo taken in Prince Albert, the Karoo, in South Africa, whilst visiting my brother. The early morning sun was so captivating that I just had to stop loading the luggage into the car and grab the camera.

Time

Winter morning in July 2016, with some haze in the back ground, most probably mist rising from the river in the distant valley.

Lighting

The sun was about a hand breadth above the horizon, so giving that famous golden light that we amateurs keep hearing about.

Equipment

I used a 18-105 stock lens on my Nikon D7100. As I was loading the luggage, there was no time for formal setup on tripod.

Inspiration

The whole scene was just magical, and I knew it was a chance that would not happen again.

Editing

I always shoot in RAW, on manual, and only post-processing software I have is the Nikon NX2. I did little bit of sharpening, and turned down the brightness by two notches.

In my camera bag

Apart from the Nikon D7100, I have two stock lenses - the 18-105 and a 70-300, plus a 50mm 1.8 and 40mm micro. Lenses cost in South Africa more than 15 times what they cost in Europe due to our bad exchange rate!

Feedback

As a pure amateur, it is very difficult to have tales of wisdom to the more experienced people in this forum! But, I believe in always having the camera close-by, and when the opportunity arises, to take the shot.
