Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my backyard and zoomed in to the ridge in New River, Arizona. My property is backed up to State Land so most of it is undeveloped around me. I have an abundance of saguaros and desert vegetation. Also a lot of wildlife. This ridge has a canyon behind it and almost every rain I get a rainbow or double rainbow. A lot of them come into my yard

Time

This was late afternoon when the sun was setting and the light was hitting the ridge from the west. Also a slight mist from the rain made this an exceptional large rainbow. One of the largest I have ever seen.

Lighting

I still had my Nikon Coolpix when I took this and the setting was on dusk to dawn. Always got more dramatic pictures on that setting.

Equipment

This was taken with just my Nikon Coolpix and zoomed in.

Inspiration

After I became handicapped and was limited on going places and walking very far I took advantage of the property I live on. It has great 360 degree views and spectacular colorful skies. Everyday I try to capture what the day brings and it's always different.

Editing

It pretty much is the way it looked.

In my camera bag

I won a contest from the tourist division of The State of Arizona with Arizona featured on a really profession camera bag. I only had that Nikon Coolpix at the time and the bag was too advanced for that. I purchased a Nikon D3300 that came with a bundle package and also bought a extra zoom lens. It has the close up lens and the wide angle lens also. I have a couple tripods but rarely use them.

Feedback

Anytime the sun is shining and the clouds aren't being blocked look for the mist and rain because you've got a pretty good chance to catch a rainbow. Always carry your camera so you don't miss some unexpected circumstance to get a unique picture. The sun setting seems to bring out the best colors.
