Location
This photo was taken in Joshua Tree National Park in southern California, during a three day Fine Arts Photography workshop presented by Ralph Nordstrom/ The actual location was at Cholla Cactus Garden overlooking Pinto Basin.Time
We got up at about 4am so we could get to this location by sunrise.Lighting
We had lots of great golden hour light as the sun was rising, but no clouds, so the sky was kind of boring. For this shot I placed the rising sun behind the cholla to capture the lights thru the cholla as well at the light on the horizon.Equipment
This was taken with a Pentax K3, on a Manfrotto 055 tripod. No filters. Exposure was 1/40 second on f/11 at 100 ISOInspiration
On a Fine Arts Photography workshop with Ralph NordstromEditing
As photo was shot in raw there was some basic processing in Lightroom, reduced highlights, shadows, set white and black point, increase vibrance and added clarity. For final processing added dynamic contrast in ON1.In my camera bag
Still carry my Pentax K3, but have since upgraded to the full frame Pentax K1. Lenses (all Pentax) 15-30mm 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 150-450 4.0, 50mm 1.4, walk around lens 28-105mm. Manfrotto 055 tripod, filters - circular polarizer, 3 and 6 stop ND.Feedback
Like a lot of photography being there at the right time. In this case the most important thing was the light so the timing of the sunrise.
