Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at Bunker Bay, Western Australia during our winter, towards the middle of July, and is a beautiful place at any time of the year.

Time

It was school holidays and my eldest daughter (13 years) loves photography, so i dragged her out of bed around 4.30 am. The photo was taken at 5.30 am

Lighting

As there was little time between dark and sun up,i was mainly concerned about getting in the right position to take the photo. Being on the West coast of Australia there is not many places to photograph a sun rise over the coast.

Equipment

The camera used is a D800 with no tripod as it was too difficult to use over the rocks. 32mm, F/16, 1/80sec There was no filters used or any colour alteration after the photo was taken.

Inspiration

We drove by Bunkers Bay the day before and knowing it was going to be a beautiful day to follow, i could not miss seeing what the morning would bring.

Editing

I just set the camera to Vivid in menu.

In my camera bag

D800 body, love this camera. WR 10 wireless remote, Manfrotto carbon tripod, nikon 50mm prime lense, nikon 70-200,nikon 16-35 and nikon 24-70

Feedback

You should always go to the place the day before, early in the morning so you can see the direction of where the sun is rising from and work out the best place to take the shots as you don't have much time when the sun starts to come up
