I took this shot while on site with a group of young adults at my new job. I am a job coach by profession, and I was helping a group of kids have a work experience at The Ohio Wildlife Center. We were working on some landscaping in the pollinator garden when I noticed this stubborn robber fly. So I nabbed a shot before it flew away.Time
I took this shot just before we broke for lunch. It was swelteringly hot in late July near noon. I'm surprised I didn't also capture a few beads of my sweat.Lighting
I was fortunate enough to be in a perfectly lit natural space. All the lighting was provided by Mother Nature.Equipment
I captured this image with my Samsung Note5 and a clip on macro-lens by Neewer my wife had given me for Christmas.Inspiration
Since we were outdoors most of the time, it was difficult for me to not look for images waiting to be taken. I was inspired by my curiosity.Editing
I did use Snapseed to add a touch of structure to some of the less defined edges, and I bumped the contrast just a hair. Afterward, I cropped it to better frame the image. In my camera bag
I don't have any formal equipment as all I use is my phone to capture images. But I always have my clip on macro-lens, my LED flashlight for tricky lighting, and an old polarized lens I found (I just use the macro-lens clip to hold it in place when I use it).Feedback
The only advice I am qualified to give is to just look for interesting things as you go through your day. When something grabs your eye, seize the opportunity to take a shot. Once you've got your image framed up, shoot as many shots as you can, and then sort through the images to find the ones you like best. Also, carry a big bag of luck with you.
