This is the lakefront of Great Lake Michigan from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I estimate I was standing 50 feet into the lake (I can't really tell. I was standing on a few feet of ice!). We had recently experienced a few days of warming and this rather large piece of ice broke off but when temperatures dropped again, it refroze a few feet in to the lake (open water - ice).
