This photo was taken on the promenade at Portobello Beach, Edinburgh, UK. I take my camera everywhere to take advantage of every opportunity to keep learning. Even though it drives my husband and kids mad sometimes!Time
I love this image of my youngest daughter. The family decided last minute to go for an evening walk in the sunshine. What better place for it than the beach. Warm sand and evening light. This photo was taken on 13 August 2015 at 19.52.Lighting
I wanted to capture the late evening light as it had a great hazy atmosphere about it and when I saw my daughter walking along the wall i just saw a lovely candid shot.Equipment
For this particular picture I used my Canon 50d with 55-250mm lens. Shot at ISO 500, f7.1, 1/400 sec. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
As an amateur photographer who is self taught I take my camera with me wherever I go as I still have a lot to learn. It was a beautiful evening as I walked with my family (husband, 4 daughters and one of my daughter's friends). Secretly I was trying to get some nice photos of my girls so I could frame them for other family members. The summer atmosphere and hazy light was magical and as soon as I saw my little girl walking on the wall shoes in hand, happy and without a care in the world I just knew I had to capture that moment in time.Editing
I have to admit I did do a bit of processing in Lightroom on this photo. First and foremost I always remove the chromatic aberration and enable profile corrections. I converted the photo to black and white then adjusted the contrast level, the yellow, blue, aqua, red and orange grey levels and finally the shadows. In my camera bag
I don't actually carry a lot of equipment in my bag. I tend to have my Canon 50d, 18-55 kit lens, 50mm prime lens and a 55-250mm lens. I have a couple of hoods for my lenses, spare batteries, and cleaning cloths. Depending what I decide to shoot I may have my tripod and a couple of filters with me.Feedback
Candid shots can make beautiful photos. The best advice I can give is just relax, take in the atmosphere of where you are, be aware of the people around you and tune in to the emotion and feelings. You will know when the right moment comes to press that button and capture a moment in time.
