Conopholis americana is seen locally in the Sandia Mountains that border Albuquerque. It is a parasite, growing on the roots of trees. AKA: American cancer-root or squawroot. Bears feed on this perennial in the spring. Its resemblance to an ear of corn is striking, but it is easy to compare its appearance to a pine cone.
