Sandhill Cranes at the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge.
These birds stand 2.5 feet to 4 feet tall, with a wingspan of 5.5 feet to 7.5 feet! These are very large birds. They wheel around my house in the mornings and evenings, and take turns gleaning fields with flocks of Snow Geese. In the refuge itself, one can spot Golden Eagles, Bald Eagles, Red-Tailed Hawks (chicken hawks), Kestrels, owls and many other raptors.
