This picture is taken in a pond near my paren't house where I go swimming (with my dogs ;) ).Time
This is taken at midday. Since the picture is taken in a natural pond even though the water is clear, it is pretty dark. So underwater photography is only possible on a sunny day.Lighting
This is taken with natural light. It's photographed in natural water so I needed direct sunlight to get enough light.Equipment
This is taken with Canon Powershot D20.Inspiration
My dogs love swimming. I bought them these floating rings to play with in the water. When I threw the rings in the water they would go below the surface and then rise back up. One of my dogs would just wait for the ring to appear, but the dog in the picture, Brit, would dive after it. She would also drop the toy in the water herself and then dive after it.Editing
In post I just added a little sharpening. In my camera bag
My main camera is Canon 5d mk III and my favorite lenses are Sigma art 50mm and 35mm.Feedback
Any advice for trying to capture something similar. Hmm, this wasn't an easy shot to get and I have a lot of shots from the water that were no good at all. I would only try this a couple of times in one session, because I didn't want the dog to keep diving over and over. She's a terrier and they don't always recognize their limitations. So many days I got no good shots at all and we'd try again another day. So I guess my advice is if your pet naturally likes doing something cool to photograph go for it! But be patient and it's your job to make sure you both stay safe and have fun. This photo reminds me of a hot sunny summer and having fun with my dogs :)
