I took this photo long the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. This stop was showcasing the 12 Apostles (although over time they have become the 9 apostles, but who's counting?).Time
At approximately 4 am in the darkness of night, I awoke all of my travel companions so we would make it to the twelve apostles for sunrise! My eagerness was not shared by anyone else. As we drove through the early morning we couldn't shake the feeling that it was earlier than we thought. We then discovered that over night the time had changed due to day light savings and I had actually woken all of my friends at 3 am to drive 2 hours for sunrise.... which wouldn't be for another 2 hours after we got to the Apostles. It didn't help that it was the coldest morning and they all huddled in the freezing cold while I held my camera at the view waiting for that golden sun. (They forgave me once the beautiful sculptures lit up in that first morning sun!)Lighting
There was a weird low cloud that kept the sun from coming up an extra hour... So not only had I woken my friends one hour early, we also had to wait an extra hour (but that ones on mother nature)Equipment
I used my Canon Rebel t5. Nothing but myself and my camera were involved in this shot.Inspiration
I have been planning my Australian adventure since I was 10 years old. The Great Ocean Road was always something that took my breath away in photos and I knew I had to see it for myself. I wanted to find a new angle; a different shot from what I had seen so many times before. I went to an area that was fenced off, climbed the fence (of course. What great shot comes from following the rules?), and patiently waited for the perfect lighting.Editing
I did some slight adjustments through photoshop elements. Unfortunately, my photoshop skills were at their lowest when I edited this one and I have since re-edited it with the new knowledge I have learnt along the way.In my camera bag
I always have my camera (duh), my only two lenses (18-250mm and my 55mm), an external flash from the stone age that was passed down to me and I am in love with it, an extra memory card and a wipe for my lenses.Feedback
Make sure to arrive as early as you can as TONS of tourists crowd this place! Try to get to some of the more difficult to get to places for those unique shots. Have fun and make sure you know which day day light savings comes on ;)!!
