Incredible shot. I have photographed Howell Michigan many times. Never get tired of seeing the raptors. Great shooting.

Location
This photograph was taken at the Howell Nature Center, Michigan's largest wildlife rehabilitation center.Time
This image was taken on an overcast spring afternoon which allowed the owl to keep his eyes open.Lighting
People who don't shoot always think a sunny day is good for photography. In realty a sunny day is generally bad for most photographs as the light is harsh and contrasty. Luckily we had an overcast day with soft even light which allowed a beautiful image.Equipment
This image was shot on a Gitzo carbon fiber tripod with a Really Right Stuff ball head. I used a Canon 7D Mark II camera with the new Canon 100-400mm zoom lens.Inspiration
I was looking for the opportunity to photograph raptors and discovered the Howell Nature Center.Editing
The image required very little in post processing, just some noise reduction and sharpening. In my camera bag
If I am shooting wildlife, butterflies or flowers I use my Canon 7D Mark II with the new Canon 100 to 400 zoom. a Canon 180mm macro lens and a Canon 100 mm IS macro lens. When shooting landscapes and city scapes I use the Canon 5D Mark II and always have my trusty Canon 24 to 105 lens, which is the best walking around lens ever. I usually add the Canon 16 to 35mm lens and a lightweight 80-200mm lens to my camera bag.Feedback
Trying to capture raptors in the wild is difficult, so if you want to capture these birds look to your local raptor rehabilitation center. The rehab centers frequently offer photographers a chance to photograph their birds as a way to raise money for their rehabilitation efforts. This is a win win for the photographer and the rehab center.
