I enjoyed this photograph, the insect and center of the flower are very sharp and the colors are complementary. I wish I had taken this one. Very nice.

Behind The Lens

Location

Taken at my mother in laws house, we had just had a BBQ and I was admiring her beautiful flowers, she has such a beautiful garden.

Time

Taken on a summers evening so not yet dusk but drawing near, when I spotted this little one, I've got a fascination with trying to get up close and capturing all the detail!

Lighting

My mother in law has quite an open garden with the sun over head, but it was coming into the early evening so light although still good was slightly fading. It was by off chance that I was playing around with my camera when I took the photo.

Equipment

Beleive it or not this was taken on my regular digital camera, (Nikon coolpix s7000) no fancy lens, just a point and click... 20x zoom

Inspiration

I'm pretty much self taught on photography, I'm nowhere near at the level I want to be, with just a foundation/level one photography qualification in my back pocket so I'm always practising or trying to take a photo to turn into art. I have a fasination with getting up close and I just wanted to test out how close I could get with the basic camera I had.

Editing

As far as post processing is concerned I find I do have to touch up quite a lot of my raw images as I'm still learning, also I like to add a bit of texture to photos, or a bit of depth, in this case I added a bit of vigenette effect to make sure the focus was solely on the bee and the flower.

In my camera bag

I'm still quite simple, I have my iPhone and IPad Pro for editing on the go (it's surprising what you can come across and turn into art!) and as far as cameras and lens are concerned although I would love to be able to afford some top of the range equipment, I have my tripod and also my camera, a canon power shot Sx530 (bridge camera) I work a lot on the editing side of images to get my desired effect, however my original photos only ever really need the white balance or the clarity changing in some instances.

Feedback

When trying to get up close, just be ready for the opportunity to arise at any given moment, make sure you have good lighting and take from a good angle. Nature is beautiful no matter which way you look at it, however the way you look at it will depend on your outcome.
