Location
This photo was taken at the abandoned rail tunnel in Helensburgh near Sydney. It is most famous for its glow worms.Time
It was taken around 5 pm, the ground was very wet and slippery. I had to wait for the rest of the group to go into the tunnel and get out of my shot. I guess they were more interested in the glow worms anyway.....Lighting
The original shot was too dark on the tunnel walls, so I had to play with the shadows to compose the shot better.Equipment
Shot with my old Canon EOS 1000D, 1/25 sec, f/3.5, iso 400, 18-55mm kit lens.Inspiration
We were going to see the glow worms. On the way in I thought "I should look back" and instantly thought, "This will be a cool shot". I don't tend to be too inspired by others, I like to do my own thing and take spur of the moment shots.Editing
Not too much, I try to get the shot as close as I can in camera. This one has the shadows, lights and darks tweaked and some contrast and clarity adjustments. In my camera bag
Now my gear is much more than when this was taken. I carry my 5D mk1, 50 mm 1.8, 24-105 mm L series, speed light, two sets of remote triggers, 4 batteries, cleaning equipment, nd8, nd2000 and CPL screw on filters, corded trigger, tripod, 5 in one reflector, plastic bags and a hat!Feedback
Like I said, I try not to "set up" shots, I like to go with the flow. Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time. I say go out there and give it a go, take heaps of shots, experiment with your settings! My motto is "Beauty is all around you. You just have to open your eyes, your mind and your shutter."
