Location
This was taken at Niagara Falls Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls Ontario.Time
Taken in the afternoon inside the Conservatory.Lighting
This taken with natural light within the building.Equipment
Canon 7D with a Canon 200mm L 2.8 non is at 180mm. Used a monopod.Inspiration
Just happened to come across the butterfly and saw the angle with a perfect background. Truth be told it was only after I got home that it hit me that this was a great shot.Editing
Use LR with just basic edits. Sometime use ON 1.In my camera bag
I carry light when I go out. If I am going for a landscape I bring my Canon 17-40 f4 L and my Canon 200mm. For long exposure night shooting I bring my Rokinin 14mm f2.8. For wildlife in particular birds I bring the Canon 400mm f4 L. seldom bring a flash. I come from the old film days and I find that it is not so much the equipment but how you use it. If I am going for a portrait shoot I bring the Canon 85mm f1.8, 200mm f2.8 and 50 mm 1.4 with some reflectors. I also carry extra batteries and an ND 8 stop variable filter. I have also started to carry a sekonic light meter for those tough exposures you sometimes come across.Feedback
Patients. Sometimes the perfect shot is the shot that just comes by chance. Just be prepared and you do not need to bring all of your equipment. Prepare for the specific shoot your going for and if something like wildflowers or wildlife comes into view and all you have is an 85mm then take the shot. You never know it could be winner.
