Behind The Lens

Location

This Photo was taken in Tichigan, WI

Time

My Husband and I were out for our evening drive to see if we could capture any good photos. We have a route that we take and we never fail to be disappointed. On this specific evening we saw a heard of deer in a field next to some woods, but they were to far to really get a good shot. We continued to drive around the bend where the back side of the woods was. There sneaking out from the trees was this little guy. So we stopped and waited. He just kept coming out a little further and a little further. It was so exciting.... bet his mom was wondering where he was. Eventually he was close enough to get some amazing photos. You can even see the bugs flying around his eyes.

Lighting

I think the time around dusk is just an amazing time to get some beautiful shots. In this case it really soften the effect of this little one.

Equipment

I used my Canon 70D with my Canon 100-400 mm LIS mark II. The Lens is amazing and is had held with great stabilization. No flash was needed.

Inspiration

My Love for God's creation. I love to take any photos that are in the wild, whether it be animal, birds, insects, flowers, landscapes etc. Nothing, in my opinion compares to God's handiwork. The Beauty of nature of any kind is incomparable to anything else and to capture an animal in its own habitat is a blessing.

Editing

The only thing I had to do with this photo was crop it a little better. Was one of those perfect shots. I was so very pleased,

In my camera bag

We usually keep with us extra sets of batteries and our shoulder straps in case we decide to do some long walking. We also keep our Canon Macro lens 2.8 100mm, and our lens for landscapes a Canon 17-40mm lens. We also bring along a white balance filter.

Feedback

Take your time....be willing to sit and wait. If you can establish a route that you check frequently to get to know the kinds of animals, birds etc that frequent that area. If after sometime you don't seem to really see much then change the route up but again be willing to be patient. Also change up the times you go out. The animal life is much more active in the early morning and towards the evening time. Make sure your settings are appropriate for the lighting outside and if the subject allows it, snap a few photos to guarantee a great shot. Happy Shooting Everyone .... Enjoy every minute
