I love this color! Are they called Blue Glory or are they a type of daisy? They are gorgeous. Great shot! I love the dewdrops.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at a neighbors home who loves flowers and all different kinds of flowers at that. These were my favorites

Time

I was excited all day because my husband and I were going to go to the neighbors house specifically to take pictures of flowers. We knew she had many but we were in for a surprise. There were flowers there we never even saw before!! So we went on a Saturday in the evening since that is my favorite time of the day to take photos.

Lighting

Because I love the evening and morning light we went in the evening. I think the lighting is just beautiful during this time which we call the golden hour. So I tried all different settings and this one just happened to turn out looking the best with the background being darker.

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS 70D 1/500 of a sec F 2.8 100mm

Inspiration

I wanted to do something different....something that would create an artistic look... We always see flowers and pretty much the standard shots but I wanted something unique. I try to find things that are unique in my photography so since this was my favorite of all the flowers in the garden I worked with this one.

Editing

I only darkened it up alittle

In my camera bag

I normally use a Canon 7D Mark ll now and I bring along a canon 100-400 mm L IS II USM lens and a Canon 400 mm F/4 DO IS II USM When I do macro work I use a Canon 2.8 100mm I also bring along a shoulder strap to help with carrying the bigger lens... a mono pod and tri pod are kept in my car trunk. In the case of this photo I also brought along a squirt bottle of water to add to the flower

Feedback

Be prepared... Know what your hoping to capture...make sure the lighting is going to be good and bring a flash just in case. Flowers are everywhere...wild flowers are amazingly beautiful as well. If you are going specifically for flowers though a park or neighbor who actually care for specific flowers is always a plus as you know you are for sure going to find some great specimens. Take lots of pictures and try different settings even different lenses. Now days is much better as we can see our photos right away and then make changes. Also Photoshop helps to critique it when you get home... Have fun and be creative!!
