Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my backyard at a former house in Florida.

Time

I’m not quite sure but likely mid morning, when the sun is not too high and bold but still warm and soft.

Lighting

I found this antique rusty glider bench at a lovely local shop and persuaded them to let me purchase it. I also gave the shop owner a copy of one of the photos I took of it in my garden. Apparently it used to be party of a carriage or wagon. I love the craftsmanship, color and curves of this old glider and way the rust is taking it over bit by bit.

Equipment

I used my Canon 70D, handheld, no flash just natural light and no filters.

Inspiration

I fell in love with this piece at a local shop using it as a display. The style and color grabbed my attention and I had to own it. It looked beautiful in my garden and with the warm summer lighting it just glowed. It’s still with me at a new house and happily nestled in my garden with an undergrowth of pale green ivy.

Editing

Not much, a the lighting was so beautiful that day. Bumping up the color a wee bit, cropping as needed was about all that was necessary.

In my camera bag

My Canon 70D, and a 200mm zoom lens are about all I carry besides extra cards!

Feedback

For me photography just comes naturally. I think my best advice is: shoot what you love. try different angles (and don’t be afraid to look silly doing it!) and time of day. And, always look up!
