Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo of Lion Rock at Piha Beach in Auckland New Zealand. One of our most famous beaches with its own tv show.

Time

My boyfriend took me to the beach in the afternoon as a little romantic getaway and we walked along it until the sun started to set and I managed to take this amazing photo on my phone.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect and I positioned myself so that the reflection of the rock would be seen perfectly in the calm water.

Equipment

This image was shot with an iPhone 5. I just wish I had had a proper camera with me so that I could have taken a even better photo with greater detail.

Inspiration

I was inspired by the natural beauty and lighting of the whole situation. I saw the silhouettes of carefree people in the corner of my shot and realised how small but important we all are in this incredible world.

Editing

I sharpened the image due to a phone camera being used. But other than that it is all natural beauty

In my camera bag

I always take my phone with me as it's super light and easy to travel with. I have been looking at getting a actual camera to enhance my photography skills and take it to the next level.

Feedback

My advice would be to always consider your angles. That way you can achieve a picture with the perfect lighting on your object and also sometimes be able to capture the reflection, like I have been able to in this picture.
