Location
This photo was taken at Yosemite Valley on our annual camping trip. I specialize in photographing Birth and Newborns, however this time I just couldn't help myself. I had to take my camera with me and photograph this stunning place!Time
I took this photo sometime in the afternoon after we finished rafting down the Merced River. The valley was beautiful and clear!Lighting
The lighting was simply perfect. The clouds played a major role in this photo. They provided a perfect diffuser for the bright sun.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 6D 50mm1.4 PrimeInspiration
Being in Yosemite, you tend to have Ansel Adams on your mind. After visiting the Ansel Adams gallery, I was inspired to try to re-create this photograph in his style. High contrast black & white with lots of detail and depth.Editing
I do all my post processing in Lightroom and rarely need to visit photoshop. I edited this photo using custom presets that I created myself. In my camera bag
Being a Birth and Newborn Photographer, I don't have much need for a zoom lens, so I stick to my Canon 50mm 1.4 Prime and my Canon 6D body. I always have my reflector ready just in case. Don't need much else.Feedback
My advice for anyone trying to capture something similar is don't try just once. Revisit the location several times through out the day, and take as many shots as possible at those times. Play with your F stops. Take similar shots with different exposures, and if you have HDR, give it a go! You never know what you will get!
