I took this photo at Providence Canyon in Lumpkin, GA. I have always been an adventure junky but I never documented any of my adventures. About 5 months ago I decided to get a camera. This shot was an idea I had that I had been trying to capture all day. I finally got this one as we were about to hike back out of the canyon.Time
Providence Canyon is a very popular destination. It can become very overcrowded. I like to arrive before sunrise so that I can get a solid 4-5 hours of the canyons to myself and miss the crowds. This shot was taken as I was leaving and the crowds were growing. It was about noon and I was trying to get a few more moments of the canyons to myself.Lighting
It was noon so the sun was pretty much overhead. There was a lot of shade from the canyon walls and the shrubbery. It was a bit tricky as certain parts of the wall were soaked with sun and others were not. I found a spot that was more shady to take this shot. It allowed for me to play with the settings a bit more and find that perfect perspective.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7100 with a 35mm 1.8 lens. Hiking through the canyons can be quite difficult and very muddy. The less equipment the better.Inspiration
From my short time exploring the world of photography I have found a love for perspective. Finding interesting perspectives that may not necessarily come to mind. I was hiking along the canyon wall and I looked up. The vision popped in my head immediately to shoot right along the wall looking straight up. It took me a while to get a shot I was happy with but this one came our beautifully.Editing
As a fairly new photographer I haven't quite learned all the post-processing that I would like to. The extent of my knowledge currently is adjusting the exposure and contrast. I believe I may have fiddled with this photo a bit but I am unfamiliar with editing tools and post-processing techniques. In my camera bag
Unfortunately my stash of equipment is quite small. I have my Nikon D7100 and my 35mm lens that I take with me everywhere. I have the stock 18-55mm lens but I rarely use it. Always have a tripod on me in case a long exposure opportunity comes around but thats about it. I hope to add some more lenses soon as my photography addiction is growing daily.Feedback
Try and see things from a different perspective. I think that always makes for a more interesting photo. You may not have the best equipment or post-processing skills but if you can take something that makes people really look at your photo and try to understand it then you have accomplished something great. My skills are very limited and I've got a lot to learn but with a focus on perspective I think I am able to take interesting shots. I think all photographers should follow that same rationale.
