Location
Incredibly, this tree belongs to a Golf Course next to downtown, in Montevideo, Uruguay.Time
I shot this one on December 18 of 2012 at 21.30hs. Here was Summer.Lighting
Along many days tried different hours to shoot but was hard to decide the best light. Has been very difficult to get what I was trying to find.Equipment
By that time I used a Canon SX260IS that I still keepInspiration
I like trees and have many photos about them. I like the light through the branches and leaves. I had been taking photos from this tree from February 9th 2012 with a Canon SX230IS, up to this one. Tried different angles, with clouds, without clouds, raining, with sun, at night, at sunset. My camera did not help too much with low light but is quite good, as can be seen.Editing
With this one I had a problem. There was a street lamp that was always on and had to come with the photo to get the correct angle. Was at the upper left corner. Tried different possibilities and finally made it disappear by post processing. I also washed colors lowering vibrance so the sky looked not so blue and the red sunset color not so red. Played a little with sharpness, contrast and light. In my camera bag
In my bag I usually have a Canon T3i and a 7DMKII. I carry an EF 50mm1.8 II in case I have very low light, an EF-S 18-135 IS STM and an EF 70-300 IS USM, all Canon lenses. Sometimes I use a EF-S 10-18mm IS STM generally for architectural purposes Depending where I go, I may take a monopod or a standard tripod. For special purposes I use a very old Bilora tripod, made in DDR (East Germany) Is very heavy and sturdy. In my pocket generally comes my loved SX260IS.Feedback
I believe that in first place, mainly with landscapes, is important to learn to "get the picture", that is to look at something and see the photo. Many times what you see, changes very fast, so you must act at the moment. When shooting sunsets, you will have a very little time to press the shutter as is constantly changing the sun height, the colors, the light and the shades. In other cases, you must try with different lights or angles. Probably will need to try with different shooting settings as may be with white balance or aperture, to get what you need. May be you will need to shoot the same "picture" on different days. Always, patience and thinking about, is the key. In case you like to shoot Nature, the key is always patience. I carry a folding little stool for shooting wildlife.
