Thank you! It was getting dark and the image already had deep shadows so it lended itself to doing this sort of image.

I took this image at the National Zoo down in Washington, DC.Time
This was taken at sunset.Lighting
I did not have my tripod at the time so decided to use shutter priority to get the clearest image under the conditions. I also use back button focus. I did not want a grainy image but wanted the fastest shutter speed possible so let the camera figure it out. The background was ugly so I did spot metering on the flamingo and darkened the background. I also planned on burning the background later so looked for positioning for a dark backdrop.Equipment
I do not have big fancy equipment but the bare minimum. I have a large family and food comes first! Ha ha! I have a Canon T3i and your regular kit lens.Inspiration
I just LOVED the beautiful colors of the birds. They were also so still which enabled me to get a crisp shot.Editing
I have the PS and LR Adobe CC Suite. The Pfx Reflection Action is a free action for CC users. I also did some dodging and burning. Also, some lighting enhancement. I think what is important is to just subtract or enhance what is already there for it to look natural. I feel like I'm still in the learning phase as to what is too much or too little... It's a journey...In my camera bag
Ummm... Not too much... Usually, I have the things listed above as well as a tripod. But, this was at the end of the day and I was tired of carrying my tripod. Which is really when I needed it the most. :-0Feedback
Keep your tripod until the end of the day! :-) Think ahead about what you are going to be doing with an image... Think about what you would like the final image to look like... I had the final image in mind long before I took the shot.
