Location
This photo was taken at Supai, Arizona in front of the beautiful Mooney Falls.Time
This was taken probably at high noon, but because we were down at the bottom of the Supai canyons, I had just enough evenly dispersed light. You can see the highlight peering through the very top of the waterfall.Lighting
The bottom of the canyon is flooded with shadows which gives the picture a more ominous, mysterious feeling. The darker shadows behind the rocks on the wall look like a bunch of ghouls getting ready to attack my friend.Equipment
I used a Sony A5000, which is my very first camera, with a 16-50mm zoom lens. I didn't use a tripod because this moment happened so quickly, which shows some blur on the background. I was happy that my foreground came in focus.Inspiration
I was at the right place at the right time. There were a lot of other people there as Supai, AZ is very popular around the world because of their beautiful scenery and waterfalls. I'm an avid hiker and backpacker which ultimately led me to get into photography. The great outdoors is a great inspiration for any photo.Editing
I did very little post-processing on this photo. I increased the color by increasing the vibrance just a bit in Lightroom. My experience in Lightroom has improved since this picture was taken, but I still wouldn't change anything about how I post-processed this picture. It came out just right in my opinion. In my camera bag
Since this picture was taken, I've upgraded my camera to a Sony A6300 and acquired more gear. I have a Samyang 12mm f2.0 which I used a lot for landscapes and astrophotography. I have a Slik Mini tripod which is perfect for hiking due to its lightweight design. I have many batteries and memory card. I use my iphone as a remote control shutter for those long exposures. I keep all my gear in my Photosport 200AW camera backpack.Feedback
Take your camera and start shooting as much as you can. You start to develop a routine and figure out what works and what doesn't work. You learn more about lighting and exposure and all these other terms that make up a great photo better than any books/website/advice can teach you.
