Traveling through Banff National park is a true dream. Around every corner is another breathtaking view and it just never ends. It is hard to be a photographer there because you want to stop every 5 minutes!Time
On our way to the Columbia Icefield in September, we passed by Herbert lake where the light was just gorgeous. With a quick stop, this capture ended up being one of my favorites for this trip.Lighting
Lighting is sometimes a lucky event and that is what happened here. Also, by being aware of your surroundings you can capture the good shots!Equipment
This was shot with my trusty Nikon D7100 and a kit lens, 18-200 mm, and it was handheld due to time.Inspiration
Just driving through Banff can be a constant picture-want-to-take event but this particular lake really caught my eye with the early morning steam and the snow on the mountains reflecting on the flat water. Shortly after the picture was taken, the mists drifted away as if they had never been there.Editing
Very minimal processing-just a slight sharpening. In my camera bag
When it is possible I take just about everything with me! a Wide angle lens, 35mm, 50mm, 600mm lenses, tripods, and bean bag. You can never be too prepared but traveling long distances by planes I sometimes have to pick and choose. Then I narrow it down to my 18-200 lens, 50mm and wide angle.Feedback
Banff is one of the most beautiful places in North America. We have traveled there in March, May, and September and I feel that you get a great sense of the beauty with snow on the mountaintops. The wildlife in this area is amazingly abundant and I think that May is the best as they are beginning to come down from the mountains to eat. We saw grizzlies, black bears, elk, goats and moose. The waters are a gorgeous turquoise color due to the runoff from the glaciers and add a stunning accent to the beauty of the park. I would come with a wide angle lens and tripod along with a good telephoto lens to capture not only the landscapes but the wildlife which can sometimes be very close!
