This is at the Atlanta Zoo. While I was in school to get my degree, we had several field trips and this was one of them. Being the oversized child that I am, I thought it would be fun to hit the petting zoo.Time
This was mid afternoon on a very overcast day. It was sporadically swapping from drizzling to intermittent rays of sunshine coming from the sky.Lighting
The beautiful light of the overcast day was all that I needed for this wonderful image. Although he is hiding under a wood bench of sorts, the light bounced of the ground to give him some amazing light on him.Equipment
This was the Canon 5D MkIII and the 17-40 lens. Hand held.Inspiration
This little guy was not liking me at all... he kept running away and I was trying to get a picture of him. I finally decided to just stick my camera under the bench and see what I got.Editing
I did some "fake" HDR where I like to pull the shadows way up and the highlights way down.In my camera bag
I carry the Canon 5D MkIII and 7D MkII with a variety of lenses. I have since upgraded from the 17-40 to the 16-35. During this trip, I carried the wide angle and my 70-200 with several batteries and memory cards.Feedback
When shooting animals in the zoo... I always try to capture the emotion of the animal. In the instance of this images, you can see the bench and that does not bother me. Some people try to capture the animals as if they where in the wild and I don't care so much about that. I approach zoo photography much like photojournalism, capture what is happening.
